Class 5 2023 - 2024
Welcome to Year 5!
Updated: October 2023
I hope you all had an enjoyable half-term break and are ready for the new half-term!
Please bring the following items with you every day:
- A coat
- Lunch box (if you are not having a school lunch)
- Morning snack
- Water bottle
Below, I have included some key information regarding the second half term in year 5:
In Literacy, we will focus on the book ‘Beowulf’ by Michael Morpurgo. This book will form part of a new Literacy scheme of work which we will be following.
Our Numeracy lessons will be based on consolidating and extending our knowledge of the four main operations as well as fractions in the latter half of the term.
In Topic lessons, we will be studying the Victorians.
Our PE lessons this half term will be on a Monday afternoon and on a Wednesday afternoon we will be going swimming. Please wear your Highfields Academy red top with black shorts/tracksuit bottoms (depending on the weather) and trainers. Children may also bring a red jumper too depending on the weather. On Swimming days, children may wear their warm PE Kit with trainers and a suitable coat for the day as this will likely be more comfortable for the walk down to the swimming pool and likely a quicker changing process than shirts and ties!
We are using Atom Prime as a school for our homework this year. Please make sure you have activated your child's account and that they are completing their homework each week.
We are also using TTRockstars in all of KS2. Please encourage your child to use this as much as possible!
It is very important that the children continue to read regularly at home, as this builds up their fluency and will continue to build on their comprehension skills.
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to ask.
I am looking forward to having an amazing year with all your children.
