Year 4 2025 - 2026
Mrs Richards
Welcome to Year 4!
Welcome back to the Summer 2 Term.
I hope that you all had a lovely break and enjoyed the amazing weather that we had.
As always, we have a busy half term ahead with new topics for History (Viking and Anglo Saxons) and Science (Living things and their habitat).
Our new Pathways to Write book is Blue John by Berlie Doherty.
it is a wonderful story set in a cave under Mam Tor in the Peak Districk.
You can actually visit the Blue John caves and look at this amazing stone - maybe something to consider for the Summer holidays?
Please note, PE lessons will be on a Tuesday and Thursday this half term. For our PE lessons, the children will need to wear their PE kits (red hoodie/jumper, red T-shirt, black leggings or tracksuit bottoms, and pumps or trainers). Please could you ensure that all uniform is labelled. For health and safety reasons, earrings must be removed during PE lessons.
Reading regularly at home remains incredibly important - it helps children to develop fluency, prosody and strengthens their comprehension skills.
Homework is assigned on Atom Prime every Friday and is due in the following Wednesday. Please make sure that your child’s account is activated and that they are completing their weekly assignments. You can access Atom Prime here.
We have been practising all year for the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check and the time is nearly here!
We will be administering the check the week beginning 8.6.2026 so please help your child to practise as much as possible between now and then.
There is no 'pass' mark for the check but you will receive your child's score once these have been released.
We will continue to use the Pathways to Spell scheme which is a progressive and research based approach to spelling. With this scheme, there is a cycle of review objectives covering the whole curriculum to ensure gaps in learning are constantly revised. We are very hopeful that this scheme will help our children to become more confident spellers. Please see the Summer 2 Overview attached in the Files section.
You will also receive your child's spelling report regarding the Year 3/4 Common Exception Words (tricky words). A letter has been sent via School Spider to explain this. Please could you use these words as a basis for spelling practise at home. We suggest that maybe you choose between 10 - 15 words to work on each week. We will also be focusing on a set of words from the Year 3/4 list in class this term.
I do hope that the information provided is useful. If you do have any questions or concerns, or require any further information, please feel free to get in touch - our door is always open.
